When The Camellia Blooms wins big at 56th Baeksang Arts Awards

The romantic crime thriller bagged 4 awards, including the prestigious Daesang.

Baeksang Awards is a yearly affair to honour the best Korean dramas and films.

But unlike previous editions, this year’s awards ceremony was held without a live audience. Social distancing measures put in place as the artists sat a distance away from each other.

The absence of a live audience did not dampen spirits. And the 56th Baeksang Arts Awards was no less a star-studded affair, with a host of stars in attendance.

Hosted by Park Bo Gum, Suzy and Shin Dong-yup, the award show saw both upsets and surprising wins across various categories.

When The Camellia Blooms (2020) was this year’s biggest winner, bagging a total of 4 awards. This includes Best Actor (Kang Ha Neul), Best Supporting Actor (Oh Jung Se), Best Screenplay and the Daesang (Grand Prize) for TV category.

Veteran actress Kim Hee-ae was crowned Best Actress for her outstanding role in The World of Married. The highly-rated series also took home the award for Best Director.

Baseball-themed drama, Hot Stove League, starring Namkoong Min and Park Eun-bin was the underdog for Best Drama, rising strong against viewers’ favourites such as Itaewon Class and Netflix’s Kingdom.

There was a reunion for the cross-border, on-screen couple from Crash Landing On You as both Hyun Bin and Son Ye-jin received the TikTok popularity award on-stage.

The popular hit also scored wins for Best Supporting Actress (Kim Sun Young) and the Bazaar Fashion Icon Award (Seo Ji-hye).

Congratulations to all winners.
