New “BTS Law” passed allows further military deferment for BTS

BTS now has two more years with ARMYs, their fans.

The oldest member of the septet, Kim Seok-jin, better known as Jin, will turn 28 coming Friday.

While fans celebrate the joyous occasion, this also signals his impending enlistment into the South Korean military.

Previously, the South Korean law states that able-bodied South Korean men are required to enlist in the military for around 20 months when they turn 28, if not sooner.

But fans of BTS need not fret anymore. The South Korean government recently made revisions to the country’s Military Service Act.

Under the revised law, Korean pop stars who have attained the government “Order of Cultural Merit” for their work in spreading the country’s cultural influence will be eligible for deferment until the age of 30.

All seven members of the chart-topping group have been awarded the medal in 2018.

The law revision had been in talks since September, after BTS landed the top spot on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart with Dynamite.

It’s evident that BTS is currently on a roll as they were recently nominated for the Grammys, under the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance category. They are the first South Korean band to do so.

Though the septet have made regular appearances on stateside programmes, fans can expect to see their performances on Melon Music Awards and the Mnet Asian Music Awards, held on 5 and 6 Dec respectively.
